O prémio ‘acimentou’ PENDULUM no livro histórico do drum&bass. O rock invade o drum and bass e provoca o caos... MC JAKES (d-style, uk) Jakes has been a part of the drum an bass scene since it's beginning. Starting his journey as a raver and then through chance becoming an MC. In 1993 he hooked up with the Bristolian Ledge crew an became their resident MC along side MC Megatron and DJ Dazee at the now seminal Ruffneck Ting. From this residency he soon began to get booked at bigger events such as Dreamscape, Helter Skelter and One Nation as well as being able to tour all over the world. It was a natural progression for him to start making moves in the studio and had his first ever vocal on vinyl on Ruffneck Ting Records, called "Streetlife" along side Markee Substance (Kosheen). This partnership would also bear other fruit; Dialect on Breakbeat Culture and they have remained friends to this day. Whilst at Ruffneck Ting, Jakes met a man named Mark Caro (Tech Itch) through Darren Beale (Decoder / Kosheen) and a true family was formed. They would go on to make some of the darkest D& B to date with releases such as "The Ruckus", "The Calling" (with Kemal) and the anthem "Soldiers". Whilst touring with Tech Itch, Jakes met the E-Z Rollers and he and Lady Rolla hit it off from the word go, so favors were called in and Jakes joined the Rollers in 1999. Jakes was part of the Moving Shadow tour which traveled through America and Europe and settled into his role as the MC for the tour and the E-Z Rollers, which led to appearances at the Diesel New Music Awards, Knowledge Drum & Bass Awards in addition to several slots on Radio 1, Kiss FM and Galaxy FM. Being a person who liked many styles through a friend Jakes met with Paul Crossman & Ells (General Midi) and went on to write several tracks with him as singles in their own right such as "Entertainer" and "Bass Rokkas" released on T.C.R. Both were cained on dub and received a lot of attention in the breaks scene. Then they later asked Jakes to co-write and perform on the Distinctive Records album "Midi Style" which was nominated for best album at the Breakspoll Awards. Through this link Jakes also recorded with Jean Jaques Smoothie and the legendary Timo Mass, the latter leading to Jakes performing at several venues and festivals. This connection enabled Jakes at a chance meeting to bump into the guys known as "Stereo8" and the boys soon linked up to make music. In Bristol Jakes also met John and Alister (Distorted Minds) and the trio fast became friends and whilst working in the studio they made the controversial smasher known as "T-10" which was released on Breakbeat Kaos. Not long after Jakes met David Carbone and through him, Tom Casswell (TC) and a killer duo was formed. "Deep" is the tip of the iceberg that these boys have in store for the public. TC and Jakes are tipped to be hot in the year's 06/07. Jakes is also the resident MC at premier nights H.E.N.C.H, RUN, BLOWPOP, THERAPY and BOUNCE. At the present Jakes still tours all over the world with various acts and is the founder of a dubstep cru called H.E.N.C.H from Bristol. He is getting recognition as a producer in his own right and looks forward to more time in the studio. Jakes has also signed to D-STYLE records and is in the process of recording his first solo album. 2007 is set to be a busy year for Jakes so watch this space. VARIOUS LABELS JAKES HAS WORKED WITH: |
