Drum and Bass/UK 
2009 Dj A.M.C has been djing for over 10 years now after getting his first set of decks at the age of 11. His love of drum and bass first came from when a friend of his showed him a tape of Nicky Blackmarket and Stevie Hyper D and since the he has never looked back. A.M.C started mixing at home and after a few years started to have regular slots on local pirate radio stations and local nights. A.M.C then started running his own nights with a friend of his and called the night HIVE. It was a different night than most that covered most types of dance music. HIVE went on for 2 years but after financial problems it had to shut down. Since then things have started to pick up for A.M.C and he was signed to Drum & Bass Arena for which has played regular slots on DNBTV and Drum & Bass Arena nights. Dj A.M.C is know for his fast paced mix style incorporating many different styles and using 3 to 4 decks. A.M.C has djed at many nights and has alot of experience at playing to crazy crowds in big venues. He has also played abroad on numerous occasions in many different countries and continues to do so. Recently A.M.C has been working hard in the studio trying to get some tracks together for release as he understands that this is the next step for him. He hopes to continue djing and to one day own his own label showcasing the unheard of talent that is out there. Lastly Dj A.M.C was nominated for 'best newcomer dj' at the DNBA Awards 2009.

Even though the band members decided to split in 2000 in order to work as solo artists, ten years later Alec Empire is reuniting with the super group. A new single is on its way already and waiting to be blasted onto Porto crowd. In the late 90s Atari Teenage Riot (ATR) emerged out of the electronica genre, to subvert all rules of rock and techno music. The original conception was Alec Empire's and when joined by Hanin Elias, Nic Endo and Carl Crack on stage, the mixed race, mixed sex image of the band provoked people before they even heard the music.

Metalheadz / Hospital (uk) Commix is the alias of Cambridge duo Guy Brewer and George Levings, who have been producing music for the past 6 years. Since their first forays onto vinyl on DJ SS' Formation imprint and close ally Nu:Tone's label, they've released tracks for labels including C.I.A, Hospital Records and Horizons Music, becoming popular with a multitude of top DJs including Fabio, DJ Flight, Lee, Marcus Intalex and DJ Marky. After originally being a trio, Commix became two in 2004, and since that time their sound has taken on an edgier and more wide-ranging style, with their diverse range of musical influences shining through in their music. In 2005, the mighty Metalheadz picked up on a selection of tracks - one being Satellite Song (which quickly became an anthem with the likes of Goldie and Randall), appearing on the MDZ05 compilation, as well as Urban Legend and If I Should Fall, combining to make up a critically acclaimed 12" on Metalheadz. With Goldie then offering the duo an album deal, Commix became the first artist to release an album on what is for many people the most important label in drum&bass to this day. This album is set for release in Summer 2007, and from the few samples that the DJ elite have been dropping in their sets of late it's set to be quite a project. As well as all this, Commix tracks and remixes are also appearing on Subtitles, Horizons Music, Dispatch and others, and their DJ sets are becoming hugely in demand across the globe, as trips across Europe, Asia, North America, South America and the UK hold testament.

Metalheadz // Ram // Hospital ~ NZ Concord Dawn (aka Evan Short & Matt Harvey) burst onto the New Zealand music scene back in mid 1999 with their unique high octane Drum and Bass sound. They were the darlings of the local bNet / Student Radio stations up and down New Zealand, getting hefty primetime airplay, featuring at the top of the weekly Top Ten’s and breaking chart records across the bNet. After a year or so of underground success they were courted by local electronic music label Kog Transmissions and released their first album Concord Dawn in July 2000.

Actually behind the two nicknames we discover the same person – Ivan Shopov. At the age of 26 he has already have a lot of success in the drum’n’bass scene with 40 vinyls released by foreign labels and constant sets abroad. Lately he is making dubstep and ambient together with Ivo Hristov and the result is a great album – Kuker, in which we can hear the magical sound of Theodosii Spasov’s kaval as well. Beside this Ivan strenuously draws…. And do so many different things.

An icon for American d&b for over a decade, he has become an international symbol of this volatile underground dance music movement. America’s best-selling d&b artist by far, Dieselboy was the first American to be voted into the UK-based Drum & Bass Arena Top 10 DJs 2004 online poll. Early in 2007, Dieselboy tag-teamed with d&b’s best-known superstar Goldie in Russia where they co-headlined a festival attended by over 25,000 junglists, and they shared headliner status again soon after at SXSW 2007 in Austin, Texas.

He started working with the likes of; DJ Zinc, Loxy & MC Rage this got him to perform at various venues such as the Astoria, The Rocket and Club UN in North London over a period of time. It wasn’t long before getting his first international gig travelling to Germany in 1997. Sadly towards the end of 1997 Eruption Fm shut down but with consistent encouragement from MC RAGE, A.D. carried on trying to break through to the mainstream DnB circuit by performing in & around the UK & Europe establishing a name for himself!

Prolix
Ganja-Tek ~ UK According to the dictionary, Prolix means [to talk or write] ‘at great length’. Taking that depiction and running with it like a crazy kid with a pair of scissors, Chris McCarthy thought it made an appropriate moniker for a man who, at 6’7”, has an impressively lengthy stature. However, it’s his music that speaks volumes and, since 2005, Prolix has been making massive statements with his own blend of high-octane drum & bass. Having been a big rock and metal fan during his teens, Prolix had taken up the guitar and played in bands, but eventually made the passage into electronic music through artists such as The Prodigy, Orbital and Aphex Twin.

Ram Records ~ UK It all started with a demo CD being passed on by a friend to the biggest drum and bass DJ in the world, Ram Records’ boss Andy C in 2003, with a phone number badly scribbled on the cover. Impressed by the quality of the production, Andy, after a few tries, managed to dial the right digits and talk to Subfocus. The result of that conversation was the release of ‘Down The Drain’ on Andy C and Red One’s experimental offshoot Frequency in 2003, and the start of Subfocus’ meteoric rise to fame in drum and bass circles. Followed a couple of 12s on Frequency and Infrared, as eagerly received on dancefloors, and his exclusive signing and first contribution to Ram in 2004 with ‘Strobe’, one of the highlights of the Ram Raiders 6 EP.

(Position Chrome, Offkey, Freak, Outbreak)(GER) The Panacea (Position Chrome, Offkey, Freak, Outbreak) Mathis Mootz, the teutonic mastermind and producer behind The Panacea from Wuerzburg, Germany, has developed and perfected his sinister drum and Bass mashup style over the years. The Panacea is the digital Napalm Death, fueled by wreck-step beats, he samples and generally throws together elements of hardcore techno, drum'n'bass, jungle and industrial into his unique explosive sound.

( Bad Taste Rec / Non vogue / Lifted Music- NZ) After months of work bolting together mongreloid bass lines, drum breaks and synthesised melodies in a manner not too dissimilar to Dr Victor Frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s novel of the same name, drum and bass occultists The Upbeats prepare to reanimate the dead with ‘Ghost Radio/1968’, the third release on their Non Vogue Record label.
The first of many breakbeat-jointed monsters constructed by hand, then resuscitated from the nether realms, ‘Ghost Radio/1968’ represents a rare preview of the mad alchemy driving The Upbeats third album release –Big Skeleton. Part day of the dead tribute, part haunted house story and all indestructible Brazilian death tank homage, Big Skeleton finds The Upbeats working within their musical butcher house with a new degree of surgical precision to the extent that the album’s original release date has been rescheduled to September. This lead to an EP and a 12" on Reinforced, the daddy of all DnB labels and not a bad start at all! Soon Zero and Beta2 were getting to meet the likes of Klute,Fabio, Total Science,Goldie, Digital, Bailey, Flight, Storm , Doc Scott and so on..by 2001 there was releases coming thick and fast on labels like Subtitles , Commercial Suicide , Function and Advanced. |
